The Plot Thickens is a 1936 Drama film directed by William Sistrom, starring James Gleason and Zasu Pitts, who plays the aging schoolteacher and amateur sleuth, Hildegarde Withers, in Stuart Palmer's stories. James Gleason, from RKO Radio's previous Hildegarde Withers films, which were with Edna May Oliver and Helen Broderick, plays Hildegarde's friendly nemesis, Inspector Oscar Piper.[1]
